ACU’s Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry seeks candidates of outstanding potential and demonstrated achievement with expertise in Christian theology, broadly understood. The ability to put historical sources in creative dialogue with contemporary problems is highly desirable, as is awareness of, and engagement with, contemporary methods in the study of religion, and with modern philosophical traditions. For further information, please see the ‘Position Purpose’ in the Position Description PD Research Fellow, Constructive Theology.pdf
Research Fellows and Senior Research Fellows have a primary focus on research but some teaching, especially of graduate students, may be required. They will be expected to develop their own research leading to high-quality publications, to participate in collaborative research, and to contribute to the collegial life of the Institute.
Research in Religion and Religious Studies, including Theology, at ACU was rated above world standard in the 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia assessment conducted by the Australian Research Council. The 2017 QS Subject Rankings placed ACU 36th in the world in Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies. The Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry has built connections with leading scholars and universities internationally, including through hosting regular international ACU Rome Seminars. We look for new appointees to the Institute who have demonstrated the ability to think across traditional disciplinary boundaries in areas such as New Testament and Early Christianity, Philosophy, Theology, Religion, History, and Literature.
ACU is an inclusive community that welcomes students and staff of all faiths and no faith. ACU enrols more than 35,000 students across seven campuses – Adelaide, Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, North Sydney and Strathfield (Sydney). As valued members of our community, staff members are expected to understand ACU’s mission and values and to demonstrate an active contribution to them.
Remuneration: Research Fellow salary starts at $96,477 + 17% employer superannuation contribution. Senior Research Fellow starts at $120,882 + 17% employer superannuation contribution.
